Are You Moisturizing Your Skin The Right Way? Let’s Discuss

Moisturizing is the one step we all follow religiously (hopefully). Most of us would argue that we’re doing a stellar job of applying it, but the truth is, very few of us really know HOW to apply moisturizer. If you’re not applying moisturizer right, then you won’t be reaping its sweet, sweet benefits. So, let us guide you and change your life.

Apply it on damp skin

Your moisturizer absorbs best when your skin is slightly damp. The best time to apply your skincare is when you’re right out of the shower. This way, your skin is soft and receptive to all the goodness that you put on. Don’t forget to apply it to your neck too!

Don’t use too much

The biggest sign you’re using too much moisturizer is clogged pores and dullness. This means breakouts, greasy and dull skin. If you’re experiencing these symptoms, it might be worthwhile to reevaluate how much product you’re using. On the other hand, if you don’t use enough moisturizer, your skin will feel stretchy and dry, or you can even experience some redness.

Take a dime-sized amount in your palm to warm it a bit. Now dot it all over your face and neck and using your fingertips, massage it using upward strokes. Massage your face until it is completely absorbed.

Apply it on clean skin

By this, we mean that if your skin is not properly cleansed and exfoliated, your moisturizer won't sink in properly. If your skin is dry and patchy, get rid of the top layer using your trusty exfoliator and then moisturize.

Pick the right moisturizer for your skin type

If you know your skin type, choose your moisturizer accordingly. For oily, acne-prone skin, try the Chialeader Oil Control Moisturizer, which is a lightweight gel moisturizer that absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. If you have dry skin, opt for a creamy moisturizer that has humectants (or moisture magnets) like hyaluronic acid, glycerin and ceramides to help your skin retain moisture better. For oily skin, you might want to tone your skin before applying a moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin, look for products that do not have fragrance, alcohol and nasties like parabens and sulphates.

Be consistent

While it might seem logical to moisturize your skin only when it’s dry, it doesn’t do your skin any favours. If it has already reached this stage then there is most probably a layer of dead skin cells on the surface. So, apply your moisturizer twice daily for plump, hydrated skin. I mean, your moisturizer won’t work if you don’t apply it…

Massage it in

The best way to moisturize is to dot the moisturizer all over your face and neck and use gentle upward motions to massage it in. This helps reduce sagging and also helps reduce tugging on the skin. The massage increases blood circulation to the skin, keeping it healthy. Massage until all the moisturizer has been absorbed. Do this twice a day for best results.

Don't forget the neck

Most of us forget to treat our necks with the same love that we treat our faces with. Neck skin is different. The dermis is thinner and more prone to wrinkling and drying out. Plus, friction from clothing also adds additional friction. Always apply moisturizer to your neck along with your face. Massage it in until absorbed.

So now that you know how to apply your moisturizer the RIGHT way, go exfoliate and hydrate your skin. Thank us later!
